QUOTE 357

"I mean, hello ––have you ever been invited to a mental hospital?
So, you see, it's very exclusive. it's sort of like an invitation to the White House ––only you meet a better class of people in the mental hospital."

QUOTE 356

"Samuel Johnson once said that remarrying (and he's not talking about marrying the same person here, just remarrying) is the 'triumph of hope over experience.' So for me, remarrying the same person is the triumph of nostalgia over judgment."

QUOTE 355

"They heard Todd had been shot in the leg and they wanted to know if I had done it for publicity for the show. You know, to drum up additional ticket sales. I so badly wanted to tell them 'yes, and now I con only do one more Broadway show musical because I only have one child left to shoot for publicity'"

QUOTE 353

"When I was younger, starting at about for, other children would ask me what was like to be a movie star's daughter. Once I was a little older and understood, to a certain extent, the nature of what celebrity meant, I would say, Compared to what? When I wasn't a movie star's daughter? When I lived with my normal, non-show business family, the Regulars (Patty and Lowell Regular of Scottsdale, Arizona)?"

Wishful drinking - Carrie Fisher

"A geek icon takes us down her dark corridors"

In Wishful Drinking, adapted from her one-woman stage show, Fisher reveals what it was really like to grow up a product of “Hollywood in-breeding,” come of age on the set of a little movie called Star Wars, and become a cultural icon and bestselling action figure at the age of nineteen.
Intimate, hilarious, and sobering, Wishful Drinking is Fisher, looking at her life as she best remembers it (what do you expect after electroshock therapy?). It’s an incredible tale: the child of Hollywood royalty – Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher – homewrecked by Elizabeth Taylor, marrying (then divorcing, then dating) Paul Simon, having her likeness merchandized on everything from Princess Leia shampoo to PEZ dispensers, learning the father of her daughter forgot to tell her he was gay, and ultimately waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed.

In this book, Carrie Ficher takes us down for a trip. Rediscovering all the stager of her mental illness and what will that become of her is no easy thing. From her childhood to her adult life as a mother, all acquire a new significant under this new light.

Everything we need (and don't need) to know. All the pages are spoken truthfully and with this humorous light tone, lots of funny anecdotes and word-games. All this makes the seriousness go away and what's left is sincere feelings.

A light book (but with a lot of serious content) that make a good Sunday read.
